As you can see from the ingredient list, this supplement does contain food dyes. Keep this in mind if you experience side effects from dyes such as allergies, hyperactivity, learning impairment or irritability.

Although some people prefer not to consume added coloring, the PreserVision formula does not have sweeteners like maltodextrin or sucrose. So in my opinion, it has a decent label profile compared to other products on the market.

Plus, it does not contain talc, sucrose or maltodextrin, like chewable Systane iCaps and Focus AREDS do.

Alternatively, Bauch and Lomb makes a similar product called Ocuvite that does not have food dyes. It contains the same AREDS ingredients but in different amounts. It also contains Omega-3 Fish Oil, which many believe to also provide ocular benefits.

Can You Get a Generic Version of the AREDS2 Formula?

Note: I have yet to find a generic source of the AREDS2 formula. That said, 21st Century offers a lower-priced version for sale containing the proper nutrient percentages called SuperVision2. It costs about half as much for a 60-day supply than Bausch & Lomb, however, I can’t speak to the quality.

Other alternate brands that I’ve seen don’t seem to offer any cost savings.
